More bird things
I looked at past entries I have made in other years, and I guess that maybe it isn't that late this year, although in past years I think that the migration has been a little earlier in past years. And the fact that it has been very warm for a long time makes it odder that this year is later.
But just this morning I heard a scarlet tanager in our yard. It probably is passing through, because I only heard it sing a couple times and then it seems to be gone. Not sure though. And I did actually hear and then see an indigo bunting today. And, the great crested flycatchers seem to be hanging around.
But that's it so far today. But what is interesting is that the local birds - the ones here all year, are well into their nesting. We have a pair of chickadees that is about finished with it's first brood in a box in our front yard. There is a pair of native mourning doves in a locust snag outside our back door, and lots of other nesting going on. All the while a lot of the migrants haven't even gotten here yet.
